El Tigre/OC Crossover blabbering woohoo
I had a dream related to my OCs Laika and Jaime in El Tigre during my nap today. I love the idea of Laika and Frida being friends and Frida getting Laika into mischief and Jaime being a bad influence on Manny. Like Manny is the more wholesome of the two.
-Jaime: *is drawing stick figures with boobs* Manny: Whatcha drawing? Jaime: GAH!
-Frida and Laika up to shenanigans at night and Laika keeps falling asleep.
-Frida playing with leftover ink Laika shot.
-Frida throwing a hissy fit because Laika didn't invite her to see Gorillaz but then later breaking into the concert because of a supervillain fight and Manny has to save the band.
-Frida calling Laika a nerd for being good at school and Laika flipping Frida off only to later have to tutor Frida.
-Jaime showing Manny 2 Girls 1 Cup and scarring him.
-Laika asks about the video and they change the subject. Jaime would always get into trouble at Leone Middle School. “Yeah I beat up that ugly ass Bart Simpson looking kid. He made fun of Laika I had to.” At least once a day you hear in the hallways "Jaime Hildalgo-Alvarez" being shouted by the principal.
-Jaime is like “dude your grandpapi is literally like mine but less dirty and cussy and has a cool ass sombrero. I wish I had your dad, he’s so cool! My dad’s not in the picture and stepdad hates me.” “No he doesn’t!” “Yes he does. You haven’t met him.” “No he doesn’t! Isn’t it like illegal to hate your kids?” “I ain’t his fucking kid.” “Or step kids?”
They meet him and afterwards Manny looks at Jaime sadly while Jaime pouts angrily.
-Jaime would date Zoey Aves for a week not even and then dump her. “Frida’s right-she’s a whiny biiiitch. And definitely Black Cuervo.”
-Ainsley would be nicer to Laika and when she’s not around passive aggressive to the other three. When The Lab shit happens, they’re surprised but not surprised.
-Jaime loves Manny's house so much that he gives his mother and stepdad a hard time when he has to leave. After mouthing off to his stepdad he only stops when it makes Laika nervous.
-Jaime would talk to Manny Frida and Laika less after joining the soccer team because he goes through a phase of trying to be popular.
-Neri Laika Jaime Manny and Frida are all in the same resource classroom.
-Laika helping Manny's mom in the library.
-Jaime would be good friends with Django of the undead and Che but would not like The Golden Eagle Twins Chipotle Jr. Sergio or Zoey Aves.
-Zoey would be mean to Laika for no reason. Actually she would think Laika likes Manny romantically.
-Laika being diagnosed with autism and none of the crew are surprised. At all. Jaime's like "where's my diagnosis?!!"
-Laika coming out of the damn lab and the crew having a big group hug and crying.
-Ainsley would be more mean to the crew post events of The Lab.
-Kari Melba Soledad Ester and Frida would fuck shit uuuuup.
-Frida helping Laika with conversational Spanish.
-Frida having to put the police dogs in her parents' room because Laika's afraid.
-Kari Laika and Jaime helping save the day with their powers. Jaime has a harder time controlling them.
-Jaime loves messing around with Davi and telling him scary shit just to scare him.
-Jaime once calls Manny's mother hot and Manny smacks him upside the head.
-Laika and Neri go through a period of not seeing Manny and Frida in 9th grade due to not having classes together. Laika and her brothers are away for most of this summer at summer camp during that summer. They become friendlier in 10th grade.
-Laika tries to befriend Sophia. It does not go well.
-Frida and Manny are the first peer friend Laika comes out to. Frida blabs however and Manny has to keep Frida's mouth shut about it. Puts a rift in the squad dynamic.
-Kari calling Manny cute at a sleepover in front of Frida and getting the stink eye for it.
-Jaime and Kari singing Spoonman by Soundgarden at El Cucharon.
-Kari and Frida waking Laika and Manny up with guitars. Jaime jumping on the bed screaming at them to wake up.
-Frida's parents love Laika because they feel she is a good role model for their daughter.
-Laika would always be getting hurt or into trouble because of Frida. Part of the time she'd be getting her ass saved and the other part she'd save the day.
-Laika helps Frida get diagnosed with ADHD and accomodations.
-Jaime and Frida would stand up to assholes bullying Laika.
-Jaime convinces Manny and Frida to apologize to Sergio for being mean to him on his first day of school because Laika was bullied for being a Gorillaz fan in 6th and 7th grade and that story reminds him of that.

tagged by: @scamanthalikely this is the first time I've gotten one of these in a while yayyyyy <3
Last song: SAWTOWNE - Confessions of a Rotten Girl (It's so gooood weh)
Last book: I'm working through This Is How You Lose The Time War. I mostly read Manga, and I recently Finished Undead Unluck (it's peak).
Last movie: Django Unchained
Last show: Apothecary Diaries
Last thing I searched: time to check my historyyyyy. I'm not counting the book because I was checking capitalization and also that's boooring. It was actually "superbowl" to get the date - my household throws a little get together every year, and I didn't want to make myself available (scheduling for ANIM's book club) that day so I could chill with my college friends
Favorite color: light purple! I really like most pastels, I'm a cute girl (rotten) at heart!
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Sweet, though I'm a sucker for spice. Not once in my life have I said something is 'too sweet for me' - saccharine, yes, but I mean it positively. I've also never said 'too spicy for me', but that's a mix of pride and masochism. I enjoy it, but it is different.
Relationship status: Single for. Checks notes. A lot of years. I don't even remember when my one relationship ended lol
Looking forward to: playing Dark Heresy with my (ungodly durable all things considered) high school TTRPG group. Of the two alternating games, this one's the better one - the DM cares for the craft and goes crazy on presentation
Current obsession: I'm in my "clothing TF" phase. It's like the moon, I cycle these things. Maybe tomorrow I'll be on big fluffy tails again. Maybe I'll be back on my Minecraft bullshit. You just never know.

Are there any in jokes or references in any of your fics people seem to be missing that you wish they'd notice and ask you about?
Thank you so much for the ask!!
Talk Shop Tuesday
Oh, SO many! There are so many references in my fics, I can't help myself! It's just how my brain fits things together, and I think it's fun. There's no way I could remember all of them off the top of my head (especially not at midnight, lol), but here's a few that are notable to me.
During the chapter of WWFA? where the tablet shows Ahk a vision of himself with his family, and later a vision of Katherine as a young teen, there are a few references. One is along the lines of "the dead do not sleep", and it's meant as a reference to a scene in Warm Bodies in which the main character (a zombie) sleeps and imagines his love interest and her friends all musing about him. Then, in the scene with Katherine, one of her bullies goes "Polka-Dots saves the day. What a joke." in response to seeing a comic book she drew herself - this is a double-reference to my beloved Suicide Squad, with the Polka-Dots line being a tie to Polka Dot Man and the "what a joke" being the final line in a fight scene between Rick and Peacemaker. That reference doesn't really have much weight for the story itself, it's just a fun little superhero reference since Katherine is also a comics nerd.
In one of the first chapters of Catch and Release, it's revealed that the Star Wars movies don't exist in Ophelia's universe - because Harrison Ford acted in Raiders of the Lost Ark with Alfred Molina, who plays Doc Ock, which causes a bit of a paradox. It's more a joke, since the MCU crosses their wires with Star Wars and other franchises anyway, but I thought it was funny
There are several MacGyver references in Smoke and Mirrors, particularly once Madison is given a multitool as a birthday gift - Lucas Till played both the reboot MacGyver and Havok, the main love interest in the fic
There are a lot of references to American Gods in Desert Song, since it's Quinn's favorite book, but one of the subtler ones is the line "had met the ground like an ex-convict meets his wife after a long stint in prison - gracelessly and with passion". This is a reference to how the book starts, with the main character Shadow eager to see his wife after being released from his prison sentence.
In Heartstrings, Kyle and Jasper are discussing middle names, and Jasper realizes they never chose a new middle name after they came out as trans. Kyle suggests "Django" as a joke - which is, in the X-Men comics, Quicksilver's middle name (though I can never figure out if it's legit or if he's joking) and Evan Peters plays both characters
In Sunshine, one of my Jasper/Kyle sidepieces, there's some description about how Kyle feels after he's been brought back to life - namely, how he feels like he still smells vaguely like death, and how he feels like he's not as warm as he should be. The first part is pulled vaguely from Pet Sematary, where the animals and people that come back are described to have this lingering smell of grave dirt. The second part is another Warm Bodies reference- what can I say? They're my favorite books, and the pinnacle of undead romance.
Obviously all of The Facts Were These (one of my Nik/Abner pieces) is based on Pushing Daisies and is aware of it, but one of the subtle details is that Abner's attempts to woo Nikoletta are lines from the show. For example, his first line is "Care to dance?" which is meant to be an echo of a scene where Ned and Chuck slowdance while wearing beekeeper suits (I want to say it's season 1 episode 2?)
Also in my Nikoletta pieces, there's a long-running Goonies reference: in the first piece I wrote for her, it's described that "they'd find her swinging from a water pipe before they put a power dampener on her", which is effectively the prison scene in Goonies. Then, in Pit of Vipers, Adrian makes a similar reference about that scene when referring to Abner - not only a callback to that first Nikoletta pieces, but a callback to Adrian Chase in the Peacemaker show, where he describes a bunch of inmates as "Sloth-from-Goonies-looking motherfuckers" just before a big fight scene.
And honestly, I'm putting a whole separate section for all the X-Men references in my 6 Underground fics, because... there's a lot
In Nom De Guerrre, AJ questions why One picked "Worthington" as his (canon) code name in one of the scenes, and he responds "Uncanny X-Men #134" - not Angel's first appearance by any means, but it sounded more interesting than just "X-Men #1"
In Desert Song, Quinn's quipping with One and he responds "I swear to God I'll sew your mouth shut" - that's a reference to the X-Men Origins version of Deadpool, who has his mouth sewn shut. Wolverine even says "Looks like somebody finally found a way to shut you up" in the movie
Also in Desert Song, during Quinn's origin flashback where she meets Billy for the first time, he sits down in the alley with her and she "looks at him like he'd just grown a pair of wings". Why a pair of wings instead of the more traditional "like he'd grown a second head"? Well, Ben Hardy played both Billy and Angel. I reference that a lot, but so do the writers of the actual movie, so we're even.
Since One's actual name is never revealed in the actual movie, I have a bit of fun with it in my fics. In Nom De Guerre, his real name is Logan - Wolverine reference, of course. And in Desert Song, it's Nathan Christopher - referencing Cable, AKA Nathan Christopher Summers. In both fics, the other characters are aware of those being comic characters and poke a little fun at him for it.
This one's in reverse, but in my X-Men fic A Love Once New (which features Angel, of course), there's a reference about how Rae lives on the fourth floor of her apartment complex and only "a parkour genius or- well, Warren" (since he has wings) could get to her balcony from the back side. Did parkour exist as a concept in the 80s? Not a clue. But the reference was worth a little anachronism.
And... yeah, there's so many more than just these. If I combed through all of my writing, I'd have hundreds of little hidden references to books, movies, comics, you name it. I love planting in those little references and details even if nobody ends up noticing them. Maybe somewhere out there I've got a reader who's a nerd in the same way I am, and smiles when they notice those little details. I can hope lol.

Ok, when you go out on the street and ask any random person if they ever heard of this movie in question and the answer is 'no' then I'd say it failed to turn people racist.
I don't know a single person who has ever watched birth of a nation in the year of our undead lord 2024 and suddenly became a raging racist because a movie that doesn't even have talking in it that was made at the turn of the fucking century had some white people painted up in blackface doing crimes.
Every racist person I know has racist parents and family or friends.
A goddamn book or movie ain't the shit that made them racist.
But you know what let's look at a list of recent movies where Nazi/racist people were depicted and oh my fucking god wouldn't you be shocked that all of them are bad representations?
1: Get out. The racist were the bad guy
2: 12 years a slave. The racist were the bad guys
3: Django unchained The racist were the bad guys
4: Jojo rabbit. The racist were the bad guys
5: Greenbook. The racist are the bad guys
6: Blackkkclansman. The racists were the bad guys
You know in fact I'm having a really hard time finding popular media that depicts the racists as the good guys.
I mean unless you count pregr u on youtube but that's a whole new can of worms that goes beyond racism.
OP is complaining about a fic that isn't even racist they just don't like it when someone depicts a 'bad guy' character as something other than a bad guy even if in canon the character in question isn't a fucking bad guy by the end of the series.
That's on them but they're welcome to fix those tags and get out of this harmless fandom space that did not ask for their shitty opinion in the first place whenever it is most convenient for them.
i feel like the "fiction =/= reality" stance falls apart when you bring up racism. because actually in fact racist media is bad. even if it is fictional. it's morally wrong, and it's bad.

Ough you have me spiraling on that “May be undead, may be unknowable entity posing as/replacing” Peachy au
God, I love the idea of Mars being the only one to know that that’s Not Peachy because of something horrendous he did, but not being able to tell anyone because he’d have to explain how he thinks something’s wrong. And how he now has to kill her *again* without Django or Ira catching on
:D! glad you like it! I dont really have any plans to expand further but it was a fun idea to throw out and imagine the consequences of

If Zoey Aves is Acat. And Manny is Zcatz/Manolo. Maya is Frida/Maria. I give you the theory that Joaquin is Django of the Dead.
Why? Because, Joaquin is an orphan raised by his grandparent after his dad is gone. He has interest in dating Maria and is clearly a love interest to her but loses against his friend in the long run. He is mostly unable to die and works to surpass his father’s legacy.
Django is good friends with Manny. He dates Frida for a bit before things don’t work out and the three stay friends. Django is raised by his grandmother and tries to surpass her legacy. He is also undead and therefore can’t die easily...
I know some people think Acat/Zoey is Joaquin but I think this theory has some weight to it if you think that each version of them goes through similar life struggles.

Are the Guild and the Huntresses the only undead hunting organizations around, or are there others that are not relevant to the story?
I suppose you could say “yes and no” in a way. Even after the events of boktai, the undead are still around in pockets so any human settlement is going to need Undead/Vampire protection of some kind. It could be a group of mercs or knights or even a charming band of scraggly possum women.
For Kura5 I wanted to expand the world enough for people to be able to add onto it. Obviously something like, say, a story of a group of hunters that disagree with the Guild/The Capitol would be irrelevant to the main story, but I would still love to see someone come up with something like that for boktai’s world.
“Yes hello Django we are the Order of the Wind and we make use of these mysterious creatures called ‘horses’ in order to skewer vampires with our lances.”

Weird Westerns: Race, Gender, Genre (Postwestern Horizons), edited by Kerry Fine, Michael K. Johnson, Rebecca M. Lush, and Sara L. Spurgeon, University of Nebraska Press, 2020. Cover art by James Rinere, info: nebraskapress.unl.edu.
Weird Westerns is an exploration of the hybrid western genre—an increasingly popular and visible form that mixes western themes, iconography, settings, and conventions with elements drawn from other genres, such as science fiction, horror, and fantasy. Despite frequent declarations of the western’s death, the genre is now defined in part by its zombie-like ability to survive in American popular culture in weird, reanimated, and reassembled forms. The essays in Weird Westerns analyze a wide range of texts, including those by Native American authors Stephen Graham Jones (Blackfeet) and William Sanders (Cherokee); the cult television series Firefly and The Walking Dead; the mainstream feature films Suicide Squad and Django Unchained; the avant-garde and bizarre fiction of Joe R. Lansdale; the tabletop roleplaying game Deadlands: The Weird West; and the comic book series Wynonna Earp. The essays explore how these weird westerns challenge conventional representations by destabilizing or subverting the centrality of the heterosexual, white, male hero but also often surprisingly reinforce existing paradigms in their inability to imagine an existence outside of colonial frameworks.

El Tigre and Kamisama Kiss
This is an AU based off the Anime Kamisama Kiss though instead of it involving Japanese mythology it will be Mayan Mythology
So Frida is an orphan teenage girl who has been kicked out of her foster home now that she's eighteen but her foster parents are stupid and didn't give her any money or assistance on how to get a job or how to live in own her home. One night while looking for a place to stay she saves a man called Mr. Tonio from a chihuahua.
Grateful for her service and feeling sorry for her after hearing her situation he kisses her forehead and allows her to live at his house while he is away traveling. Upon arriving at his house she discovers his familiar Manny a Tiger Nagual (A creature of Mayan Mythology it is a man who can take on animal form spiritually or phyiscally) and that she is now the new land spirit.
When they first meet Manny's not too thrilled about the exchange because he has a personal vendetta against humans. He refuses to be her familiar however her new Alux servants (Short Mayan sprites) tell her that if she kisses him he'll be forced to serve her.
Delighted at the idea of her own personal man servant, she finds him and tries to kiss him but he's too quick. However after she falls off a cliff he catches her, she then takes advantage of the moment shouts "Kiss me you fool!" And kisses him. He becomes her familiar.
As Frida learns to use her powers she encounters more Mayan creatures and beings. Like Aaron a chonchon, Nigel a vision serpent, Andra a fish spirite, Sergio a war spirit, Carla and Carlito the day and night spirits, and even Xibalba and La Muerte.
Over time Manny and Frida start to become close friends and she falls in love with him but he rejects her because she's human. However despite this Manny finds himself falling in love with her.
When word goes around that they might be falling for one another they encounter Manny's former best friend Django an undead demon and Zoe Manny's ex girlfriend a Xtabay who want to destroy them.
Manny doesn't know why they hate him but their vendetta stems from the same source, a mortal woman. Centuries ago, during the time when the Spanish were arriving to early Latin America Manny fell in love with the daughter of a Spanish Captain named Cristina who happens to look very much like Frida.
Django lusted after Cristina while Zoe was jealous over Manny rejecting her for a human. So much so that the two got revenge by placing a curse on Manny, should he ever love a human woman and fail to win her love in return then he would die. So when Cristina married another man Manny started dying but was saved when Mr. Tonio took away his memories of her and made him his familiar unfortunately his memories return after falling for Frida and the curse returns as well.
To save Manny Frida though it hurts her to do so, goes back in time to try and convince Cristina to marry Manny. But what she discovers back then is something completely unexpected.
I wanna do a comic based off of this. I would provide all the writing and story line but I need an artist. Please if you know anyone who might be able to help please inform me. Also I can't pay for commissions.
